New Hope is a city and a suburb of Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 20,873 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.2 km (5.1 mi). 13.2 km (5.1 mi) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi) of it (0.39%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 20,873 people, 8,665 households, and 5,268 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,583.3/km (4,098.6/mi). There were 8,746 housing units at an average density of 663.4/km (1,717.4/mi). The racial makeup of the city was 86.66% White, 5.78% African American, 0.46% Native American, 3.21% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.74% from other races, and 2.11% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.45% of the population.

There were 8,665 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.2% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.91.
